Charleston was founded in 1670 and is known for its rich history, architecture, world renowned restaurants, and hospitality. Charleston is a very popular tourist destination. It has received numerous accolades, including "America's Most Friendly City” numerous times by Travel and Leisure as well "World’s Best City."
Downtown Charleston is referred to as the Peninsula. This is where the College of Charleston is located, the Battery with all of the restored Antebellum homes, King Street Shopping, art galleries, restaurants, fancy hotels and many historical venues.
Real Estate is a high commodity here with the average sales price at $1.1M this year. There are options with condos as well as single family homes. Looking for something under the $1M mark, go to the "working class" neighborhoods around Hampton Park, and Upper King Street. You'll find many rehab projects going on and lots of beautiful streets. Young families and retired couples all coming here to be close to the city.
My favorite restaurants are Cru Cafe, Halls, 167 Raw, Callie's Biscuits, Queen St Deli, The Grocery, Le Farfalle, Zero George and Leon's Oyster Bar. Charleston is a gorgeous city, very walkable and will take you back in time!
